The challenge
Associates spent hours on first-pass review of routine agreements, and the firm’s negotiation playbook lived in partners’ heads. Off-the-shelf AI tools hallucinated clauses and could not be trusted in front of clients. The firm wanted speed without giving up defensibility.
What we did
Four decisions that made the difference.
Extraction you can audit
Every extracted clause links to the exact page and paragraph it came from. If the model is unsure it says so, and reviewers can correct it, which feeds back into evaluation.
The playbook as code
We turned the firm’s preferred positions into structured rules. The platform compares each clause against them and explains the deviation in plain language.
Evaluation before features
A 1,400-document labelled test set built with the firm’s lawyers, run on every model or prompt change, so accuracy is measured rather than assumed.
Built inside the firm’s perimeter
Deployed in the firm’s own cloud tenancy with no training on client data, full audit logs and role-based access aligned to matter permissions.
The outcome
First-pass review dropped from around three hours to eighteen minutes. Extraction accuracy on the firm’s test set reached 96%, and because every answer cites its source, the platform cleared the firm’s risk committee for use on client matters. Docket is now being offered to two partner firms.
“Every other tool we trialled made things up. FinchSol built one that shows its work, and that is why our partners trust it.”
